We started a major renovation 2 years ago. We went from a beach house to a party house; complete with a gameroom! Then we decided to go renaissance/castle. Talk about a big make over! We also wanted to add a home movie theater. THAT was the hard part. How do you get a modern day movie theater in a 13th century castle theme? Well....hopefully these pics show ya how....
This was our game-room/dining room before the make over. He sold the pool table, took down the beer signs, moved the flat screen, and started the castle by hanging the "upcycled" chandelier.
This is the castle I live in now. It was a huge makeover and it's still ongoing. The chandelier (complete with candles) and knight in shining armour were the first of many projects.
This is our $25 thrift store find. When we bought it, glass globes were missing (which we threw away the remaining). I relpaced the bulbs with $1 electric candles and my hubby (handsome model) re-wired it and hung it in the place of the middle ceiling fan. It has it's own switch so I can "light the candles" when we want the effect of candles burning. Complete with flicker bulbs...
This is the other side of the room. The throne under the TV stays and the curio gets an over-all and stays, but everything else must go... |
I added metal corner bracing that I painted to look like black iron. |
After working on the table we had to find chairs. I watched garage sales, craigslist, goodwills, and yes, even peoples trash ;o) We spent 3 times more on the chairs than the table :-( ...but the overall look was outstanding!
I recovered all the seats with red velvet and distressed the wood with marks and black paint. I now have a table that will seat 10 comfortably, or squeeze in 12 when guest arrive!

Other chairs I've picked up along the way.... |
Now just a few pics of the rest of the house...er..uh..I mean The Royal Castle. ;o) ~teeheehee~
top of the kitchen cabinets and access to the attic. (the telephone wire has been moved since photograhed) |
the guest bathroom door also got a re-make. I stained and stressed plain $25 doors
and painted the slats on. Added the
cross-boards. |
close up of the door. I used plastic chair glides (painted black) as big nails. |
the "throne" is made of old piano bench; recovered in red velvet. A full size head-board with the center pieces recovered in red velvet. Throw pillows to match. |

Yep, even Harry Potter is in this castle! |
this is the hallway to the living room |
one side of the living room. The tapestry was made from Hobby Lobby, and pillows were bought at thrift stores. |
We even have a dragon egg in a cage |

close up of King's statue...found by Sister, donated by a friend! Another prized possession! |
There's a lot more to come as the changes take place. I'll update as soon as pics are available.
As for the Royal Theater...it's gonna have to be on it's own page to do it any justice. I'll put a link ~HERE~ when I get the page up and running.
